Membership Standards
Compulsory Standards:
Members of CTONZ must;
- Be financial members and pay an annual fee to CTONZ
- Meet all NZTA requirements for vehicles and drivers
- Have at least $1,000,000 public liability insurance
- Have Department Of Conservation (DOC) concessions when operating in
the DOC estate
- Accept the Bus and Coach Protocol (road tours)
- Accept the Road Transport Forum/Cycle Tour Operators Protocol (road
tours)
- Accept the Mountain Bikers Off Road code (MTB tours)
- Have a risk management & safety plan
- Provide bicycles to clients in a safe condition and provide clients
with instruction in safe riding (CTONZ have created bicycle rental standards
which are available to members)
- Abide by all NZ legal requirements including but not limited to,…Immigration
Act 1987/ Health & Safety in Employment Act 1992/Holidays Act 2003/Resource
Management Act/Minimum Wage Act 1983/Employment Relations Act 200/LTNZ
Road Code for Cyclists/Local Body district plans and others
- Sign up to & register all incidents/accidents on the National
Incident database & send an annual summary to CTONZ
Best Practice Standards:
(Optional) It is recommended that CTONZ members;
- Make the DOC Eco-wise Travel Guide available to clients
- Have a Responsible Travel & Environmental Policy for their company
- Be Qualmark rated
- Or have their Risk Management & Safety Plan audited by an approved
body
- Become members of the Tourism Association of New Zealand (T.I.A.N.Z.)
- CTONZ members should have the CTONZ logo displayed on their websites
- Be registered with the NZ Tax department
